Grace Potter & The Nocturnals played their first show of 2011 at Madison Theater on January 13th

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, know for their bluesy soulful rock-n-roll, started off their 2011 tour season with a stop at the Madison Theater.  The last visit Grace Potter & The Nocturnals made to Cincinnati was at the 20th Century Theater on June 17, 2010.  The band had just released their self titled third album nine days prior to that show.  When Grace and her band made the visit 7 months ago to the 400 person capacity 20th Century Theater in Oakley, only 3/4 of the available tickets were sold.  On Thursday night Grace Potter & The Nocturnals played the 1200 capacity Madison Theater, and completely sold out the venue.  The amount of tickets sold was almost four times the amount the band sold just 7 months prior.  Needless to say, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals have arrived and people are coming in droves to witness this blues driven, playfully soulful rock-n-roll band, fronted by one of the loveliest ladies in the music industry.

The crowd on Thursday night was a mix of people, from 7-year-old kids with their elder grandparents, to every other walk of life in between.  Fans would get to know each other well as the venue was packed wall to wall. Rubbing elbows with your neighbor was a trend the entire night.  The band will soon have to make the move to the Taft Theater with the rate of growth and exposure the band is getting these days.

The band played an incredible set of their high energy music well into the night.  The sold out crowd provided the energy the band thrived on, and it was apparent that all the members of the band were happy to be back on stage for the 2011 tour season.   The Noble Visions offers a look into the Grace Potter & The Nocturnals show at Madison Theater on January 13, 2011.

  1. […] More excellent pictures and a review over at Noble Visions […]

  2. Wonderful review and photos – too bad there were so few pix of the drummer and lead guitarist – the two members of the original band.

    • Thanks for the comment. I really wanted to capture some more of Matt, Benny and Scotty. Unfortunately the white spot lights were directed more towards Grace’s two spots on stage. I always make a point to capture all members of any band, but the lighting made it tough to get great images of the three guys. Actually, even getting a spot to photograph at this show was the most difficult aspect. Maneuvering for different angles was brutal. The show was beyond sold out and a nightmare to navigate for a photographer. I’m really hoping that Benny’s band Blues and Lasers comes through Cincinnati at some point. I would love to photograph them in a great setting. The lighting at the Madison was definitely a step up from the 20th Century Theater this past summer. Thanks again for stopping by……..we love the shows that Grace Potter & The Nocturnals deliver and truly enjoy photographing them in their element!!
