Michael Franti & Spearhead delivered a memorable, energy filled night of music at Madison Theater on Friday Oct 21st

The Sound of Sunshine is the recent studio release from Michael Franti & Spearhead, and their 7th album to date.  The band is currently on their fall tour in support of the album which was release in late September.  This past Friday October 21st, Michael Franti brought his energetic band to Madison Theater in Covington, Ky.  Known for their positive thoughts and political expressions through music, Michael Franti and Spearhead know how to put on a show that makes all ages dance.  The crowd on Friday night was a mix of 5-year-old little boy at his first concert, to the grandmother of a family, and every imaginable person in between.  The band took the stage at 9pm to a thunderous appreciation from fans.  The night was full of a wide array of music from the Spearhead catalog.  The title track from The Sound of Sunshine made it into the setlist at one point.  The one thing that can’t be overlooked about a Micheal Franti & Spearhead show is how involved the musicians are with interacting with their fans.  At one point Michael would leave the stage and enter the crowd, singing and dancing his way through the fans.  The direct interaction with Micheal would fill the fans with energy and adrenaline.  The band continued to play but as Michael returned to stage, he picked up his guitar and exited stage right.  At this point the fans and the band were feeding off of each other’s energy and it was palatable throughout the theater.  As the crowd is dancing, they turn 180 degrees to see Michael on the balcony of the theater looking down to the fans on the floor.  He would proceed to embrace fans on the second level and sing a couple of songs.  As he made his way back down to the first floor, he would stand on a speaker box at the soundboard and continue playing.  He would slowly make his way back through the crowd, playing his guitar while making his way back to the stage.  The concerts that Michael Franti and Spearhead put on are impressive  musical experiences that must be witnessed to truly appreciate.
