The Copenhagen Wheel embraces kinetic wheel technology

Researchers from MIT recently revealed the new Copenhagen Wheel at last month’s Copenhagen Conference on Climate Change.  This new wheel can provide a boost of power when needed, can track your progress, fitness, traffic, and even your friends.  You can even use your existing bicycle and transform it into a hybrid.  The red hub contains Bluetooth technology to transfer information to a handlebar mounted smart phone or GPS unit.

The new wheel, developed by researchers at MIT, can store energy every time the rider puts on the brakes, and then give that power back to provide a boost when going uphill or to add a burst of speed in traffic. But there are also a variety of extra functions hidden within the hub of this new wheel, which is designed to be easily interchangeable with any standard bicycle’s rear wheel. (web.mit.edu)
